After reaching the age of 50, I noticed a shift in my fashion choices. It was the right moment for a transformation and an upgrade. I am now inclined towards a classic style with a modern edge. My journey began by reevaluating my denim selection, opting for high-waisted or mid-rise jeans. The era of low-rise jeans has come to an end for me. The cuts I lean towards are straight, bootcut, and wide leg. I also think it's time to be intentional about sizing and fit. I'm not looking for a skin-tight fit anymore. The idea is for the denim to fall beautifully. As you can see from the jeans above, even with a simple tank top, a properly fitting denim can still be elevated. Now, throw a blazer over that and you're golden.

Displayed above are the styles I have tossed aside. Skinny jeans are no longer a staple in my wardrobe, except for specific occasions. The issue arises when I want to pair boots with jeans that seamlessly fit inside. Honestly, I'm not sure if I will wear this look in the current season, so it may not be relevant. However, if you still favor skinny jeans, I beg you not to choose a pair that makes you look like you were stuffed into a sausage casing. We all get fixated on sizing, celebrating when we can fit into that smaller size. Disregard this notion and opt for your usual size as a starting point, possibly going up a size or two. Another trend that simply doesn't align with my style preference is horseshoe jeans. I really just don't quite understand the look; I don't think it's flattering. I also understand the urge to want to embrace a trend. So, if you're leaning toward them, then you should go for it. Ripped denim is also a style I have discarded. Although I believe ripped denim has a place for women over 50, particularly in a beachy setting. I would consider wearing them on Balboa Island for a casual look, pairing slightly ripped Levi jeans with a t-shirt and a cardigan. Otherwise, ripped denim does not suit my style.
I'm not saying my choices should be yours, but take the time to do an honest evaluation. Do your jeans read too young for you now? Do they fit properly?
Love you, xoxo
